Oregon native and Linfield College graduate Scott Brosius has been invited by the New York Yankees to throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Game 6 of the World Series tonight.
The Yankees can clinch their first World Series title since 2000 with a win over the defending champions, the Philadelphia Phillies. The game will be televised on FOX (KPTV 12 in the Portland area) Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Pacific time.
Brosius, the 1998 World Series Most Valuable Player and current Linfield baseball coach, flew to New York City on Tuesday.
Brosius’ playing career with the Yankees spanned from 1998 until 2001, during which time New York won the American League pennant each season and the World Series title three straight years from 1998–2000.
Brosius won the World Series MVP award and was an American League all-star in 1998. He won a Gold Glove award in 1999.
Almost a decade after his retirement from professional baseball, he remains popular among the New York media and the Yankees fan base.
This spring he is set to begin his third season as head baseball coach at Linfield.
