Acclaimed Germany-based pianist Bobby Mitchell will be featured in three upcoming events during Keyboard Kapers, “A Celebration of All Things Piano.”
A roundtable discussion, “Revolutionary Music, Art, and Politics,” will be held Thursday, March 7, at 4 p.m. in the Delkin Recital Hall in the Vivian A. Bull Music Center. Panelists include Mitchell; Johnandrew Slominski, assistant professor of music; Andrea Reinkemeyer, assistant professor of music; Lindsay Mantoan; assistant professor of theatre, and Dimitri Kelly, assistant professor of political science.
Mitchell’s concert, “The Revolutionary Piano,” will be held Saturday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in Delkin. A master class, led by Mitchell and featuring young pianists from Linfield and the community, will be held Sunday, March 10, at 11 a.m. in Delkin.
Mitchell, an American pianist, is active as a solo and collaborative concert pianist on modern and historical instruments and is also experienced in the fields of improvisation, composition and conducting. He has performed extensively in the Americas, across Europe, South Africa, and the Middle East, and this upcoming season includes concerto performances with Philippe Herreweghe and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century. He is the first prizewinner of the inaugural William Garrison Piano Competition, and has performed as concerto soloist with the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, Eastman Wind Ensemble, Noord Nederlands Orkest, Amman Symphony Orchestra, among others. He holds degrees in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music, the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague and the Interlochen Arts Academy.
Keyboard Kapers will focus on the 2018-19 Program for Liberal Arts and Civil Engagement (PLACE) theme, “Revolutions,” and will showcase events demonstrating the revolutionary power of music and the arts.
