Linfield students can improve healthy habits with free access to BetterYou

A new partnership is making it easier for Linfield University students to set and prioritize healthy habits. Linfield students now have free access to BetterYou, a leading mobile wellness app.

BetterYou is a healthy habits companion that lets users set goals in four wellness categories: physical, social, educational and mindfulness. In addition, other features in the app include:

  • Celebration of milestones as you hit your goals
  • Reminders on how you can better stay on track
  • Rewards and prizes for goal completion.
  • Syncing with other popular apps (fitness trackers, etc.) to create a personal wellness hub.

New users will earn a $5 reward just for completing the onboarding in the app.

“The BetterYou app is a great complement to the many student support programs and services available to Linfield students. It is a helpful tool in setting habits and mindsets to support overall student health and well-being,” said Jenny Haubenreiser, director of Linfield’s Student Health, Wellness and Counseling Center. “Grounded in science, the BetterYou app supports each student in making incremental progress towards their own unique wellness goals. We know that small changes can have very big impacts over time, so the app is a helpful tool for students in making the most of their Linfield experience.”

Students can use BetterYou to compete with friends and roommates on custom challenges. Linfield plans to run special university-wide challenges for students, many of which include prizes for completion. The first, the Back-to-School Steps Challenge, is scheduled from Sept. 23-Oct. 4.

“College is a very exciting and transformative time for students. Yet, it is also too easy to lose sight of how important it is to get good sleep, adequate movement, nourishing food, limiting screen time, and so on,” Haubenreiser said. “Students generally know what it is they would like to do to improve their well-being, but without the right supports, these good habits are easy to let slide. The app provides structure and support, including rewards, for students in taking even small steps towards the wellness goals that are most important to them.”

BetterYou is available to Linfield University students at no cost. It is available for download from the App Store or Google Play. Students should register using their linfield.edu email address.
