Art exhibit to feature sculptures

October 18, 2010 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

The Linfield Fine Art Gallery will feature sculptures by David Corbett Oct. 18 through Nov. 20. His work shows the process of planning and constructing buildings. A reception will be held for the artist on Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 6-8 p.m. in the gallery.

Corbett has exhibited in many venues and has created an impressive body of work along the way. “Change Makes it New” was his most recent solo show in 2009 at Chicago’s 65GRAND. There, Corbett introduced his new sculptural aesthetic, wooden crystalline figures saturated in enamel paint. Similar figures appeared earlier this year in “Portland 2010: A Biennial of Contemporary Art” and in “The Quadratic Logogram of Almost Everything” at Half/dozen in Portland.

Corbett’s work has appeared in “New American Paintings,” “Portland Modern,” Pierogi’s 2000 “Flatfiles” and White Columns’ online registry. He has exhibited at various galleries including 65GRAND and Contemporary Art Workshop, both in Chicago, Evanston Art Center in Evanston, Ill., and Disjecta in Portland. Corbett is represented by 65GRAND and Fourteen30 Contemporary.

The Linfield exhibit is free and open to the public. The Linfield Fine Art Gallery is open noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. To reach the gallery from 99W, turn east on Keck Drive at the McMinnville Market Center in south McMinnville. Turn right at the first street onto Library Court. The art gallery is located in the second building on the left, Building B. Parking is available on the street and in the lot west of Nicholson Library.
