Linfield to celebrate 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution

Linfield College students and staff will recognize the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution Thursday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Jonasson Hall, lower level of Melrose Hall, at Linfield.

Linfield faculty and students will give presentations on various aspects of the Mexican Revolution throughout the day, highlighting its impact on contemporary Mexican society, politics, institutions and art. Posters displaying various moments of Mexican history and culture will be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a potluck luncheon held from noon-1 p.m.

Faculty presentations will include “Historical and Cultural Perspectives on the Mexican Revolution” by Sharon Glasco, history professor, at 12:15 p.m. Bill Bestor, anthropology professor, will present “The Mexican Revolution was a Real Revolution: Impact on Health and Education, views from a Zapata” at 2 p.m. Jeff Peterson, sociology professor, along with Denisse Chacón, sociology senior, will present “The Revolution and Social Movements: the Case of Zapatismo,” at 3:15 p.m. Violeta Ramsay, Spanish professor and coordinator of Latin American Studies, along with students will present “The Muralist of the 1920’s and their Legacy as seen in the Chicano Movement” at 4:30 p.m.
