A spirited new wine label showcases Linfield’s favorite ’Cat

Featuring the Wildcat mascot and school colors, Linfield’s new wine label honors its community and one-of-a-kind Wine Studies program.

Linfield University is raising a glass to school spirit and community with the debut of its newly designed wine label featuring the Wildcat mascot and signature school colors. The wine, an annual gift donated by the Momtazi family of McMinnville’s Maysara Winery, will be presented at campus functions and wine industry events. Proudly demonstrating its bold school colors of purple and cardinal, the wine represents Linfield pride and a sense of fun, while reflecting the spirit of the university’s one-of-a-kind wine studies program.

At the heart of this gift is a shared commitment to education, the region and the next generation of wine industry leaders. All three Momtazi sisters attended Linfield University. In addition, their father, Moe Momtazi, founder of Maysara and Momtazi Vineyard, has been a Linfield University trustee since 2002.

“The Momtazi Family’s gift to the university represents the special connection between this institution and its community,” said Maria Ponzi, director for The Center for Wine Education at Linfield University. “The new packaging represents the energy and boldness of Linfield students, and certainly of The Center for Wine Education.”

Linfield has 37 students currently enrolled across its undergraduate and graduate wine studies programs, which includes an M.S. in business with a wine business leadership track and a wine business leadership graduate certificate. Linfield is the only private liberal arts university in the U.S. to offer a wine studies major, minor, master’s degree and graduate certificate within a School of Business. Students explore everything from grape growing and winemaking to global trade, marketing and the cultural significance of wine with access to the world class Willamette Valley winegrowing region.

Recently, U.S. News & World Report featured Linfield’s wine studies program as one of “10 Colleges with Winemaking Programs.”
