On Jan. 17 more than 100 Linfield students will join students from eight Oregon colleges to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., through a united day of service.
Following a rally, students will head out to project sites across Portland, including K-12 schools, social service agencies, and environmental advocacy and neighborhood organizations. Projects will include refurbishing schools, restoring salmon habitat and helping homeless youth.
“This day of service provides students with an opportunity to actively engage in programs that support social, environmental and educational development,” says Jessica Wade, director of community engagement and service at Linfield.
“By working together on MLK Day, students can learn from one another and maximize their community impact,” she says.
Linfield faculty and students utilize service-learning as a learning strategy throughout the year.
Students are invited to register for MLK Day activities through Jan. 11.
