“Finding Your Voice: The Keys to Your Greatest Potential” will be presented by Charles Holt Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield College.
“Finding Your Voice” is designed to help guide participants in discovering who they are as individuals and human beings. The lecture and workshop builds on principles such as excellence, community, self respect and service to help individuals find the key to their greatest potential.
Holt originally dreamed of a career in professional football, but after a disappointing end to his athletic career, he moved into the business world where he enjoyed some success before an abrupt exit. He returned to his love of music and acting and has since starred in some of the most celebrated and acclaimed productions in American theatre. After moving to Los Angeles, Holt founded Charles Holt productions. Through music, stage productions, film, books and short stories, he demonstrates how to empower individuals to discover their abilities and passions.
Holt has performed at colleges, universities and spiritual centers around the world, including the John F. Kennedy Center and the Turkish-American Association in Ankara, Turkey.
The program is free, open to the public and is part of the Black History Month activities. Other events include “Portraits of Courage: African-Americans You Wish You Had Known,” Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium, and a faculty lecture by Nicholas Buccola, assistant professor of political science, “In Pursuit of Liberty: The Political Thought of Frederick Douglass,” Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in 201 Riley Hall.
