Colleges of Distinction honors Linfield in multiple categories for the 2025–26 academic year
For the fourth straight year, Linfield University has been named a College of Distinction. This national recognition celebrates institutions committed to high-impact, student-centered education. For the 2025–26 academic year, Linfield earned not only the overall College of Distinction honor, but also individual distinctions for its excellence in Business, Education, Nursing, Career Development and Private Colleges. Linfield was also named a Top Oregon Institution.
The Colleges of Distinction guide evaluates institutions based on their commitment to four key pillars: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant campus communities and successful outcomes. Rather than focusing on prestige-based rankings and test scores, the guide recognizes schools that provide a meaningful, personalized college experience.
“In a higher education landscape too often defined by rankings, Linfield stands out for the way it empowers students,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer at Colleges of Distinction. “Its programs reflect the kind of intentional learning and mentorship that prepares students for a life of purpose.”
Academic program excellence
Linfield’s School of Business was honored for its focus on hands-on, interdisciplinary learning that connects classroom theory with real-world experience. Students benefit from business plan competitions, internships, leadership training and strong industry partnerships. The program also emphasizes ethical leadership and global perspectives, preparing graduates to lead with both skill and integrity.
The Department of Education was recognized for its commitment to preparing confident, compassionate and classroom-ready educators. From the first year, students engage in practical teaching experiences across a variety of learning environments. The program emphasizes culturally responsive pedagogy and specialization opportunities to equip graduates to lead diverse K-12 classrooms.
Linfield’s School of Nursing received distinction for its nationally accredited, Portland-based program that blends liberal arts with advanced clinical training. With strong NCLEX pass rates, experienced faculty and clinical partnerships across the region, Linfield nurses graduate with the technical and interpersonal skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving health care system.
Career development at the center
Linfield’s career development programs won accolades for their integration throughout the student experience. Career exploration begins during New Student Orientation and continues with one-on-one advising, resume and interview coaching, and professional networking. Students benefit from mentorship opportunities and a dedicated employer relations team that builds strong connections with regional and national partners.
“Career services are woven into Linfield’s academic culture,” Schritter said. “From the first semester to graduation, students are supported in discovering their purpose and translating that into meaningful careers.”
