New program provides clarity, brand protection and opportunities for regional business collaboration

Linfield University is launching its first comprehensive trademark licensing program through a new partnership with Nexus Licensing Group, a national leader in collegiate brand management and licensing.

This partnership establishes a structured and supportive framework for the use of Linfield’s name, logos and marks. The new program will ensure brand consistency, quality and long-term stewardship. In addition, it will create new opportunities for collaboration with local and national businesses.

“At Linfield, our name and identity carry deep meaning,” said Joseph Hunter, vice president for university advancement. “As our visibility grows, it’s important that we thoughtfully steward our brand. This partnership provides clearer guidance and stronger support. In addition, it creates new opportunities for businesses and supporters who want to represent Linfield. It will also generate resources that can be reinvested into student programs, campus initiatives and the overall Linfield experience.”

Through Nexus Licensing Group, Linfield will implement a formal licensing process designed to:

  • Provide a clear and streamlined pathway for businesses to produce officially licensed Linfield merchandise.
  • Protect the integrity and quality of Linfield’s brand and trademarks.
  • Support vendors and local retailers with professional licensing guidance.
  • Create new opportunities for branded merchandise that builds pride among students, alumni and supporters.

For businesses, the program offers structure and partnership. Companies interested in producing Linfield-branded merchandise will receive guidance on licensing requirements and brand standards, ensuring products meet university guidelines while allowing flexibility and creativity.

“Nexus is proud to partner with Linfield University as it establishes its official licensing program,” said Brian Young, founder and CEO of Nexus Licensing Group. “Linfield has a remarkable combination of academic excellence, strong athletics, and a devoted community of alumni and fans. Many have long been asking for more ways to show their Wildcat pride. We are excited to help build a program that honors that passion, strengthens connections across the university community, and creates sustainable opportunities for the growth and visibility of the Linfield brand.”

Nexus Licensing Group is a full-service trademark licensing management firm representing over 65 collegiate brands. The firm develops specialized plans to manage, protect and further monetize collegiate assets for colleges, universities and athletic conferences. This program builds on a larger initiative: the Oregon Alliance of Independent Colleges and Universities developed a partnership with Nexus in 2024 to grow licensing programs at member institutions, including Linfield.

University leaders emphasize that the goal of the new licensing program is clarity, collaboration, and long-term benefit. It makes it easier for partners to work with Linfield while protecting the strength of the university’s brand.
