Linfield launches community discount program connecting students, employees with local businesses

April 3, 2026 by Kathy Foss

A Cats Community Partner sticker is displayed in a business window. The sticker is a purple circle reading Wildcats Welcome. The interior of the sticker has a red and purple paw on a white background with the Linfield logo.

Linfield University is strengthening its connection to the local community with the launch of the ’Cats Community Partner program. This initiative offers exclusive discounts to students and employees at participating Yamhill County businesses.

The program creates a mutually beneficial partnership between Linfield and local businesses, encouraging the university’s nearly 2,200 students and employees to shop locally. At the same time, it increases visibility and foot traffic for participating merchants. Already, 23 local businesses have joined the program, with more expected to participate in the coming months.

“Linfield is proud to be part of the McMinnville community. This program is a meaningful way to support the businesses that support us,” said Joseph Hunter, vice president for university advancement. “By choosing local, our students and employees can make a direct impact on the vitality of our regional economy.”

Participating businesses choose their own discount or special offer, such as a percentage off a purchase or a complimentary item. Linfield promotes those businesses through an online directory, campus communications and social media channels. Customers simply present their Linfield ID to redeem the offer.

All ’Cats Community Partners also receive a special decal to display in their front window, indicating their participation.

The ’Cats Community Partner program builds on a previous Linfield discount initiative that was paused in fall 2020. Its return reflects sustained interest from both the campus and local business community in reestablishing those connections.

“We’ve consistently heard from students, employees and our local partners that they wanted to see this program return,” Hunter said. “We’re grateful to the McMinnville Area Chamber of Commerce, McMinnville Downtown Association and the many local businesses who joined us in bringing it back. This program is a great example of what’s possible when we work together to support our community.”
