First year of online research repository sees visitors from 61 countries

September 27, 2011 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

One year ago, Linfield College launched the DigitalCommons@Linfield, an online archive that now preserves almost a thousand scholarly and creative works of Linfield students and faculty. Almost 7,000 works have been downloaded.

DigitalCommons@Linfield features digital collections from departments and academic programs across campus.

Two early adopters, the International Programs Office and the Linfield Center for the Northwest, have used collections like Field Notes from Abroad and the Oregon Wine History Project™ to promote academic programs and experiential learning opportunities.

Site visitors have flocked to articles about the history of Linfield that originally appeared in the Linfield Magazine, and faculty book authors are profiled in a Linfield Authors gallery.

The work of students is highlighted in collections such as the 2011 Student Portfolio Exhibition and the Science & Student Collaborative Research and Creative Projects Symposia.

With 1,035 works added in the first year alone and more content added regularly, the digital collections continue to grow. Site traffic isn’t limited to the Pacific Northwest – DigitalCommons@Linfield has seen visitors from 61 countries and 48 states. The repository has seen almost 7,000 downloads.

To explore the collections or find out how you can participate, contact coordinator Kathleen Spring.
