By Linfield News Team

The Linfield College Jazz Choir and Jazz Band will present a Jazz Night on Friday, Dec 9, at 8 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium located in Melrose Hall at Linfield.

The Jazz Band, under the direction of Steve Kravitz, will perform big band standards and original compositions. Big band favorites include “A Tribute to Miles,” “I Remember Clifford” and “Attitude Dance.” Featured soloists are students Lynn Robinson and Cory Darnielle.

Linfield’s vocal jazz ensemble, “Double Vision,” will perform a variety of vocal jazz styles. Songs include original arrangements of songs by The Beatles and jazz standards including “Sing, Sing, Sing” and “Green Dolphin Street.” The ensemble will also perform the classic Manhattan Transfer song “Birdland” and premiere an original composition, “Memories,” by director Dana Libonati. Student soloists include seniors Jessie Goergen, Logan Freitas and Jeremy Moll.

Kravitz, adjunct professor of music at Linfield, received a master’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles. He has performed as a studio musician on productions including “The Streets of San Francisco,” “Grizzly Adams,” “The Thing with Two Heads” and the “Donny and Marie Show.” Kravitz received an Emmy for his work on an ABC-TV “Playbreak” special. Currently, he is an on-call musician for the Oregon Symphony, Portland Symphonic Choir, Portland Festival Symphony, Bassoon Brothers and the Linfield Chamber Orchestra.

Libonati, adjunct professor of music at Linfield, holds a master’s degree from the University of Portland. He performs as a jazz pianist and is the leader of the band “Ad Lib.” His published compositions include “Sound Unlimited,” various pieces for Warner Brothers, “UNC Jazz Press” and others. Libonati has recorded two children’s tapes of original music that have been sold internationally. He was selected to perform in the 2012 Ten Grands Concert in Portland.

The performance is sponsored by the Linfield Department of Music. It is free and open to the public. For more information, email droot@linfield.edu or call 503-883-2275.
