McMINNVILLE – Award-winning author John Daniel will share his journey through life when he reads from a collection of personal essays, titled “The Far Corner: Northwestern Views on Land, Life and Literature.”
The reading will be held on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m., in the Austin Reading Room of Nicholson Library at Linfield College.
Daniel’s latest book explores subjects in the human and more-than-human worlds, in an attempt to understand and define his allegiances to home, country and life.
These lyrical essays range from topics concerning his experience as an author, the biodiversity of Pacific Northwest forests and rivers, authors Ken Kesey and Wallace Stegner, and the mysteries of death.
Author of nine books of poetry, essays and a memoir, Daniel won the 2006 Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award for “Rogue River Journal,” two Oregon Book Awards and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Daniel is also a former Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University and James Thurber Writer-in-Residence at Ohio State University.
Daniel received his undergraduate degree from Reed College and his Master of Arts in English and creative writing from Stanford University. Notable works include “Looking After: A Son’s Memoir,” “Oregon Rivers” and “Common Ground,” and Daniel has published in several magazines and literary journals.
In addition to his writing career, he serves as a member of the board of directors of Literary Arts, a private nonprofit that seeks to enrich the lives of Oregonians through language and literature. Daniel is also a chair of PEN Northwest, a regional branch of the writers’ organization PEN American Center. He lives with his wife, Marilyn, in the Coast Range foothills west of Eugene.
