NPR affiliate airs insights of Linfield College economics professor

September 30, 2012 by Linfield News Team

In an interview on Jefferson Public Radio, economics Professor Eric Schuck explained why neglect of a recent farm bill will harm farmers, citizens and the environment.

His insights were also carried in newspapers across the country, and his well-informed opinion column was published in The Oregonian.

Congress left Washington in mid-September, ignoring a critical farm bill with a Sept. 30 deadline. The bill regulates everything from crop price supports to food stamps, and when the current act expires at the end of September, the country will revert to a 1949 agricultural act.

“The nation will see farm policy dictated by guidelines put in place more than six decades ago,” says Schuck, who told Jefferson Public Radio listeners what likely will and will not happen before Congress passes another farm bill.
