Students celebrate art, and spring

April 24, 2013 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

Adjunct art Professor Totem ShriverEach year students in Professor Totem Shriver’s art class create an immense art sculpture and set it on fire in a whimsical celebration of spring. The event draws local children, Taiko drummers and community members. VIDEO

“For hundreds of years, humans have used fire for purification,” Shriver says. “Fire represents something primeval and mystical.”

Shriver’s students have also painted downtown art murals, a mural on side of the Linfield College Bike Co-op, and a Native American tipi.

Linfield’s studio art degree is offered within a broad context of the liberal arts and sciences.
