Professor Jeff McNamee was featured in The Oregonian for his efforts to create a 70-mile bike trail, and his research about mountain bike events has also grabbed the attention of The Oregonian, along with regional TV stations, Bike Portland and bike organizations around the country.
A story on Cycling News garnered nearly 900 “Likes.” Clearly, the health and human performance professor has some fans.
Linfield students Katie Main ’13 and Kadin Hashimoto ’13 helped analyze the data, which documents the economic benefits of mountain bike events in small Oregon towns.
“McNamee’s research couldn’t come at a better time,” said Bike Portland. Many of Oregon’s timber towns are struggling to survive as timber sales dwindle, but the mountains and rugged landscapes that surround these rural communities are perfect for mountain biking.
The Oregonian praised the Linfield professor, who is heading up an effort to build a 70-mile bike trail that connects nearby Salem with Willamette River greenways, Eola Hills wineries and forest land. Volunteers have already constructed the first four miles.
McNamee is an avid biker who works to promote physical activity for kids.
