Make a Difference DaySome 130 members of the Linfield College community, including students, families, faculty and staff, canvassed Yamhill County to volunteer their time, energy and talents during Make A Difference Day Saturday, Oct. 26.

Make A Difference Day, the largest community service effort in the U.S., prompts corporations, government leaders, charitable organizations and individuals to volunteer and perform service projects for one day.

Volunteers served at 17 sites with area organizations and government agencies including the McMinnville Downtown Association, McMinnville Cooperative Ministries breakfast, Homeward Bound thrift store and animal shelter, Linfield Garden, Sheridan Prairie Restoration Project, Habitat Build Site, St. Vincent de Paul, McMinnville Senior Center, Hearthland, Greater Yamhill Watershed Council, Yamhill Gospel Mission, YCAP, Juliette’s House, First Baptist Church, McMinnville Community Center and the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Make A Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others; it is a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.

Linfield was named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in recognition of outstanding leadership in civic engagement and service learning during the 2011-12 school year. This is the sixth consecutive year Linfield has been recognized by the national organization, which highlights the role colleges play in addressing local and global issues.
