Linfield measures up on college rankings

August 28, 2014 by Linfield News Team

Linfield's Nicholson LibraryLinfield College earned high marks on three recent college surveys.

Linfield was named one of America’s Top Colleges in the 2014 rankings by Forbes. The college was 240th out of the 650 public and private colleges ranked on the list. It placed 45th among colleges in the West. Notably, Linfield ranked second among Oregon private colleges on the Forbes Financial Grade. This proprietary measurement from Forbes looks at nine components to measure the financial health of private institutions.

Linfield was cited in the top half – 293 out of 665 colleges – on Money magazine’s list of The Best Colleges for Your Money. The newly published Money listing ranked four-year colleges based on factors related to educational quality, affordability and alumni earnings.

Linfield was ranked third of all Oregon colleges and first of Oregon’s private colleges in a new college-ranking system which values schools based on how much better off graduates are financially once they earn a degree. Linfield ranked 210 of 1,222 four-year public and nonprofit colleges. This index, produced by the California nonprofit Educate to Career and a national job-data company, considers several key data points: students’ academic status before college, the net cost of attending college, and students’ success in the job market after graduation.

About Linfield College

Linfield College is one of the few schools in the Pacific Northwest dedicated exclusively to undergraduate education. The college offers 46 majors and enrolls more than 2,500 students through three programs: a residential liberal arts and sciences program on the McMinnville campus; the Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Portland and the Adult Degree Program, which supports a virtual learning community across the globe.

The residential campus is located an hour from Portland and an hour from Pacific Ocean beaches. Established in 1858, Linfield is one of the first colleges in the Pacific Northwest.
