With the protests in Hong Kong leading the news and garnering attention online, two Linfield College students are witnessing history unfold first hand. Shane Whiteson ’16, an international relations and economics major, and Catherine Flannery ’16, a nursing major, are studying abroad this semester at Hong Kong Baptist University. Shane wrote a blog post on what he has seen and experienced being so close to the Umbrella Revolution.
“Over the past week, Hong Kong has been abuzz with words of protest against the actions of the Beijing government. This has since erupted into a near city-wide demonstration against the government, demanding protections for their democratic system of government,” Shane wrote. “I’m sure it has been widely documented over news networks and social media, but living so close to the events certainly paints a more vibrant picture of the situation.”
