November 17, 2014 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

Parker Moore '17 memorialA memorial service to celebrate the life of Parker Moore ’17 will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Ted Wilson Gymnasium at Linfield College.

Flowers, candles, notes of friendship and other items continue to be added to a memorial outside Maxwell Field as the Linfield  community mourns the tragic and sudden death of Moore. Support for Moore’s family and the Linfield community is pouring in from alumni, friends and other colleges throughout the Northwest. Churches from across the United States, as far away as Boston, have expressed concern. The Portland Campus participated in a Moment of Silence today, Monday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m.

Classes will be held as usual this week to maintain a sense of normalcy and structure for students. Counselors will be available for students and staff in 103 Walker Hall, the Chaplain is on call and additional counselors also will be on hand for the foreseeable future. A variety of resources including information on dealing with trauma are available for students.

Moore, 20, of Woodinville, Wash., was a business management major, resident advisor and linebacker on the Linfield Football Team. He was stabbed in what the police have said was a complete random act late Saturday night, Nov. 15, at the 7-Eleven store across from the Linfield College Campus. He was taken by Life Flight to the Oregon Health and Sciences University Hospital, but he died as a result of his wounds. The assailant also confronted McMinnville police officers and was shot. There is an ongoing investigation by the Yamhill County Major Crimes Response Team.
