Honoring Parker

November 19, 2014 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

Candlelight Vigil for Parker Moore
Hundreds of our students gathered on the football field for a moving candlelight vigil in honor of Parker Moore Tuesday. The Linfield community has demonstrated overwhelming compassion and care as a result of this heartbreaking tragedy. Our Health and Wellness Center continues to provide additional counseling services, and Wednesday, students had the opportunity to pet and play with therapy dogs in the Fred Meyer Lounge.

The college’s memorial service for Parker will occur Thursday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Ted Wilson Gymnasium. Doors will open at 6 p.m. For those who are unable to attend in person, we plan to live stream the service to the internet.

The Parker Archie Moore Memorial Fund at the National Christian Foundation Seattle has been established by his family to provide scholarship support to a Linfield student who most exemplifies Parker’s outstanding character and qualities. In remembering him, head football coach Joe Smith ’93, shared, “Parker, in my opinion, embodied everything that’s good about Linfield.” This fund celebrates Parker’s life, his legacy, and his love for Linfield. You can make contributions at www.linfield.edu/parkermoore.

Thanksgiving break is approaching, and we are encouraging parents to talk with students about this tragedy. Information about reactions to trauma and a list of resources on campus can be reviewed at this link: www.linfield.edu/support. We are also planning a series of activities for students who will be on campus during Thanksgiving break. Numerous parents, alumni, and friends have shared their expressions of support with us, for which we are truly grateful. Continuing this type of communication will surely provide solace to our students.
