Anne Kruchten, associate professor of biology at Linfield College, was named to the “40 Under 40: Professors Who Inspire” by NerdScholar, the higher education branch of NerdWallet.
The 40 professors, from colleges across the country, were “chosen based on their ability to captivate and engage students in the classroom, their outstanding involvement on campus and in the community, and their overwhelming passion for their subject matter.” Professors were nominated through student, alumni and faculty recommendations.

Kruchten has been at Linfield since 2006. In addition to teaching, she works alongside students conducting research on Ewing’s sarcoma, a pediatric bone cancer. She helped co-found Linfield’s innovative iFOCUS program (Interdisciplinary First-year Orientation Camp for Undergraduate Sciences), where students launch their Linfield science careers with interdisciplinary hands-on laboratory and field experience.
“I didn’t come to work at a place like Linfield to become a world-renowned scientist and cure cancer, but I did come here to be the very best teacher I could be, so this kind of honor is extremely humbling and gratifying,” Kruchten said in response to receiving the recognition.
