It took an unearned run in the late innings and nine strikeouts from the nation’s most dominant pitcher to finally silence the charmed lives of the never-say-never Linfield Wildcats.
Though two-time NCAA champion Tufts prevailed over Linfield 1-0 in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Finals, the Jumbos’ Allyson Fournier and the Wildcats’ Montana McNealy (Sr., Aloha, Ore.) waged a back-and-forth display of pitching mastery Sunday afternoon at James I. Moyer Sports Complex.

Using his closing speed and a tailwind on the back stretch of the men’s 400-meter dash, Jake Mihelich becomes Linfield’s first NCAA men’s champion since 2009. Mihelich blazes to a career-best time of 47.07 seconds to win the race by .11 seconds. He also earns fifth place in the men’s 200-meter dash.
Kate Shear places seventh in the women’s javelin to earn All-America honors and Morgunn Ewing earns ninth place in the men’s javelin. Read more
