Celebrate the wonders of Oregon wine and the people who make it possible in “Clink! A Taste of Oregon Wine,” a traveling exhibition curated by the Oregon Historical Society in collaboration with local history organizations and industry leaders.
This unique, engaging exhibition, which will be on display at Linfield College in Nicholson Library from June 1 through July 31, tells the stories of some of the individuals and institutions that propelled Oregon wine onto the national and international stage.
“With Linfield’s strong ties to the wine industry, as well as our work on preserving wine history, we are excited to have the Clink! exhibit here this summer,” said Linfield President Thomas L. Hellie. “It promises to be a great summer activity for those visiting Yamhill County wineries and for participants in the annual International Pinot Noir Celebration at Linfield College.”
“Clink!” traces the history of Oregon wines from the earliest vineyards to legislative efforts to control alcohol during Prohibition to the resurgence of the wine industry in the 1960s and finally to what the future may bring for these thriving Oregon businesses.
“We’re excited to bring this wonderful exhibit to McMinnville where Yamhill County residents can enjoy it,” said Rachael Woody, archivist for Linfield College and the Oregon Wine History Archive. “We’re proud to have so many items from the Oregon Wine History Archive involved and pleased that our collaboration with the Oregon Historical Society has been so well received.”
The exhibit features a number of artifacts on loan from Linfield including letters, notes and records. For example, a record book from James McDaniel with eight years of notes about his vineyard in the Dundee Hills will be on display. In addition, Linfield’s contribution includes items from the ¡Salud! collection, a program unique to the Oregon wine industry that offers free healthcare for vineyard workers.
The traveling exhibition features 12 colorful banners with photographs and text illustrating the history of the flourishing Oregon wine industry. Two iPads with stands provide digital interactive experiences to complement the graphics. Visitors may explore and view wine-related objects dating back to the 19th century through a digitized artifact catalog. A virtual AVA map with touch screen capability gives wine enthusiasts the chance to explore the major winegrowing areas of Oregon and learn about typical wine varietals grown in each part of the state.
