Looking for a summer read? Pick up a copy of this year’s Common Read selection, Pulitzer Prize winning The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert, and read along with Linfield.
Join a campus book club — email place@linfield.edu to sign up. New students receive a copy of the Common Read in their orientation packets and arrive on campus with their reading complete and prepared to engage in discussions about the book.
Themes from the book will be incorporated into the opening convocation keynote address, given by Theresa Betancourt ’91, internationally known advocate for child health and human rights, on Friday, Aug. 28, at 9 a.m. in the Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
The goals of the Common Read program are to promote discussion and critical thinking, to create a sense of community among incoming students, and to integrate an academic and social experience into the campus community. The Common Read program also kicks off the 2015-16 Program for Liberal Arts and Civic Engagement (PLACE) and its theme “Air, water, earth and fire: the ancient elements on a changing planet.”
