Student audio podcasts promote sustainability

August 13, 2015 by Linfield News Team

Linfield Garden shovelsInformation on biking, the Linfield garden and composting is now only an ear bud away, thanks to the efforts of a Linfield College mass communication class.

Last spring, students in the Topics in Media Production: Audio course produced a series of podcasts that explored efforts to practice and promote sustainability at Linfield.

Students applied what they learned about audio recording, reporting, interviewing, writing and editing, while gaining insights into the principles and practices of sustainability. The work provided valuable experience for communication students, according to Michael Huntsberger, associate professor of mass communication, who led the course.

“This is very similar to doing a package for NPR or your local news station,” said Huntsberger, at Linfield since 2009. “It will take them right into what they’ll be doing professionally.”
