The Linfield community welcomed a new group of Wildcats to campus. Classes began Monday, Aug. 31.
See a photo slideshow. Students checked in, moved into residence halls and learned about various services and programs. They concluded their first day with Cat Camp — learning about the traditions and quirks of Linfield. Friday they listened as Theresa Betancourt ‘91, internationally known advocate for child health and human rights, presented the keynote address at opening convocation. They also posed for a class photo in the shape of an “L.” Watch the video.
Part of the new student orientation was delivered in Spanish, led by Giselle Naranjo-Cruz ‘17, Linfield College Latinos Adelante coordinator and Mecha president.
This class has 486 incoming freshmen, along with 62 transfer students. Thirty-nine percent are students of color and 28 percent are first-generation students. The majority of students are from Oregon, Washington, California and Hawaii with 10 other states and six countries also represented. The new class features valedictorians, student body presidents, class officers, newspaper editors, athletes, musicians and actors. They have been active in their communities through a variety of organizations. They have won honors and awards for their artistic, scholastic and athletic abilities.
