Linfield’s innovative iFOCUS program was featured prominently in a new report from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
iFOCUS is a week-long exploration that engages first-year students in a variety of natural science disciplines that may lead to careers in scientific fields. It also makes possible year-round programming including student-led learning communities and a seminar series.
The report on iFOCUS is included in the new Vision and Change report issued by AAAS, which chronicles the progress made nationally in biology education culminating in a conference held in Washington, D.C., in 2013. (The iFOCUS article is chapter 2, page 14.) Susan Agre-Kippenhan, vice president for academic affairs/dean of faculty; Catherine Reinke, assistant professor of biology; and Anne Kruchten, associate professor of biology and department chair, attended and presented posters of activities occurring at Linfield.
The iFOCUS program is in its fourth year and brought 15 participants and five peer mentors to campus for a week before orientation began.
