Leander E. Keck ’49 has spent over half a century thinking, teaching and writing about the New Testament. That knowledge has culminated in his two latest books, “Christ’s First Theologian: The Shape of Paul’s Thought” and “Why Christ Matters: Toward a New Testament Christology.”
Keck’s lifelong work has been focused on Jesus and Paul and the discussion of the New Testament. “Christ’s First Theologian: The Shape of Paul’s Thought” and “Why Christ Matters: Toward a New Testament Christology” are a collection of articles he has written throughout his career on those topics. Readers will discover how Keck gave new answers to old questions even as he carefully reframed old answers into new questions. The books are published by Baylor University Press.
Keck received his B.A. from Linfield College before earning a Ph.D from Yale University. He pursued a career in academia and taught at both Vanderbilt Divinity School, and Emory University’s Candler School of Theology before becoming dean and professor of biblical theology at Yale Divinity School. He currently holds the title of Winkley Professor Emeritus of Biblical Theology at Yale Divinity School.
