Display marks Dia de los Muertos

November 9, 2015 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

Day of the Dead displayLinfield College students celebrated the lives of loved ones lost during Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Oct. 30 at the Loveridge Gallery at the Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Portland.

Dia de los muertos is Aztec and Spanish in origin, and is celebrated in the United States, Mexico and across Latin America. Linfield students commemorated loved ones with food, drink, art and music and dedicated the altar to the victims of the shooting at Umpqua Community College. Families were invited to attend, and also to bring artwork and photographs in memory of loved ones.

The event was sponsored by the Linfield Multicultural Student Nurses Club (MSN) and the Student Life office. In addition, the MSN Club and Student Life offered four Friday craft workshops in October leading up to the event. The artwork and photographs are being displayed in the Loveridge Gallery through November.
