Linfield’s Crabtree recognized regionally

February 16, 2010 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

Ellen Crabtree, associate director of academic advising at Linfield College, was named the top new advisor in the Pacific Northwest.

The award, given to advisors within the first three years, was presented by the National Academic Advising Association. Crabtree was recognized at the Pacific Northwest Region 8 conference held in January in Seattle, Wash. She will also be honored at the national conference at Walt Disney World, Fla., in October.

Crabtree has been at Linfield since 2003, serving as assistant director of admission before moving to her current position in the advising office in 2007. She has flourished in the advising field, according to colleagues who call her an outstanding academic advisor, innovative professional, excellent advocate for students, and a resource for faculty and peer advisors.

Crabtree coordinates the advising of all new transfer students at Linfield including assigning faculty advisors, coordinating registration and running the Connections program, an extended transition program that occurs at the beginning of fall and spring semesters. She helps faculty advisors serve their students, develop their mentoring skills, and see academic advising as a vital and important part of their academic responsibilities. She is responsible for maintaining the academic advising website that serves students, faculty and the Linfield community, and hosts a variety of formal trainings, workshops and resources.

Crabtree holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho and a master’s of science in education: policy, foundations and administration from Portland State University.
