Jim Diamond, professor of chemistry, discussed his decision to “drive green” recently on Yale Climate Connections.
Diamond has spent years teaching Linfield College students about general chemistry and specifically about chemistry in the atmosphere. So it was only natural in 2013, in an effort to reduce his own emissions, he purchased the first all-electric Chevy Spark available in Oregon.
Climate Connections consists of 90-second stories about how people are responding to our warming world. The episode features Diamond’s story about his journey to electric vehicle use.
“When I’m stuck in traffic, I used to just get so angry because I would be sitting there idling, pumping CO2 into the atmosphere,” Diamond said. “Now when I’m stuck in traffic, I don’t care, I’ll put some good music on.”
Diamond’s research interests include molecular modeling, ab initio calculations of electronic structure problems, and fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics. He has been a member of the Linfield faculty since 1991.
