Hugs and smiles are plentiful this week as the Linfield community welcomes new and returning students to campus. Classes began Monday, Aug. 29.
Watch a video and see a photo slideshow. Last week, students checked in, moved into residence halls and learned about various services and programs. New and transfer students concluded their first day with Cat Camp — learning about the traditions and quirks of Linfield. Friday they listened as Dawn Nowacki, the Elizabeth and Morris Glicksman Chair in Political Science and associate dean of faculty, presented the keynote address at opening convocation. They also posed for a class photo in the shape of an “L.” Watch the fun.
Part of the new student orientation was delivered in Spanish, led by Giselle Naranjo-Cruz ‘17, Linfield College Latinos Adelante coordinator. Sessions for parents and students, including a student panel, concluded with a campus tour.
This class has 400 incoming freshmen, along with 70 transfer students. Thirty-three percent are students of color and 31 percent are first-generation students. The majority of students are from Oregon, Washington, California and Hawaii with 10 other states and 10 countries also represented. Combined, the class has traveled to 81 countries.
