Valleja to present ‘Pakistan: The Land of the Pure’

Linfield College signMadhurita Valleja, Linfield’s Pakistani exchange student, will share information about her home country on Wednesday, April 11, at 4 p.m. in 201 Riley Hall at Linfield. 

The Fauré Quartett to perform at Linfield

Fauré quartetThe Fauré Quartett, one of the world’s leading piano quartets, will perform Wednesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield.

Linfield Gallery presents ‘History is a Hole’

Linfield Gallery is pleased to present “History is a Hole,” an exhibition and performance featuring Portland-based artist group Physical Education (PE). The project is a continuation of a chain-curation performance series first mounted at Pacific Northwest College of Art’s Center for Contemporary Art and Culture in 2017. For this exhibition, PE invited artists/students at Linfield College to contribute to the making of a multimedia installation that will ultimately arrive at a performance on Wednesday, April 11.

A panel of Linfield College faculty will gather to read from their newly published works on Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in the Austin Reading Room of the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at the college.

Linfield Theatre to present ‘Silent Sky’

Silent SkyA woman’s journey finding her way in the male-dominated field of astronomy is the focus of an upcoming theatre production at Linfield College. “Silent Sky” by Lauren Gunderson sheds light on the forgotten women scientists in history.

The production features the full-length play by Gunderson. Daniel Pollack-Pelzner, the Ronni Lacroute Chair in Shakespeare Studies at Linfield College, said she “has built a national reputation with works that center on women’s stories” in an article in “The New Yorker.” This year, Linfield Theatre’s 98th season, is spotlighting Gunderson’s plays.

“Silent Sky” runs April 12-14 and 19-21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Marshall Theatre in Ford Hall at Linfield, with a matinee on Sunday, April 15, at 2 p.m. A short question and answer session with the designers and director will be held on April 12, after the opening-night performance.

Linfield Concert Choir hosts eighth annual choir clinic

The Linfield College Concert Choir will host the eighth annual Choir Clinic for Yamhill County elementary and middle school students, grades 3-8, Friday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Vivian A. Bull Music Center at Linfield. 

A public concert for students to showcase what they have learned will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Delkin Recital Hall at the Vivian A. Bull Music Center.

Senior Vanderschaegen presents her senior cello recital

Anna VanderschaegenLinfield College senior Anna Vanderschaegen will present an afternoon of solo and chamber music featuring the cello on Sunday, April 15, at 4 p.m. in the Delkin Recital Hall at the Vivian A. Bull Music Center at Linfield.

Huntsberger lectures on “Waiting for Peace”

Michael Huntsberger, associate professor of mass communication, will present “Waiting for Peace: Creating a Documentary for Interactive Multimedia” on Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in the Fred Meyer Lounge in Riley Hall at Linfield College.

  • Jesús Ilundáin-Agurruza, professor of philosophy, will be presenting “Tougher than Nails: Ultraendurance Sports Women and the New World Order in Sports” at the Annual British Philosophy of Sport Association, in Swansea, Wales from April 12-14.
  • José Angel Araguz, assistant professor of English/creative writing, will be participating in a Windfall Reading at the Eugene Public Library on April 17, reading alongside poet Sam Roxas-Chua, as well as presenting the session “Always Translating: Identity and Masculinity in Latinx Poetry” at the MENTE Latino Male Summit on April 20 at Portland Community College Rock Creek.
  • Daniel Pollack-Pelzner, the Ronni Lacroute Chair in Shakespeare Studies, wrote in the “New Yorker” about playwright Quiara Alegría Hudes.
  • Joan Paddock, professor of music, directed and conducted a free concert with the North Coast Symphonic Band on April 8, “The Scandinavian Connection.”
