The Linfield College Theatre Program kicks off its 99th season of plays with the zombie story, “Night of the Living Dead.”
The play, Lori Allen Ohm’s stage adaption of George Romero and John Russo’s 1968 film of the same name, has seven people trapped in a farmhouse attempting to defend themselves from a growing onslaught of zombies. The pressure of the situation reveals the best and worst of human nature. The film was revolutionary in its aesthetics, representation of race and role in launching the $5 billion-a-year zombie industry. The production links the monstrous to racial oppression in the United States and examines what has — and hasn’t — changed since the Civil Rights Movement.
Performance dates are Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 20-22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Marshall Theatre in Ford Hall. Melory Mirashrafi ’19 is directing. On Sept. 20 there will be a post-show discussion on “Horror, Racial Violence and the Monsters That Can’t Be Killed.”
All tickets are $5 and seating is reserved. Tickets are available online at www.linfield.edu/arts and will be available at the Marshall Theatre Box Office beginning Monday, Sept. 17. Located in Ford Hall, the box office is open Monday through Wednesday 3-5 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday 3-7:30 p.m. For more information, call 503-883-2292. The Marshall Theatre is accessible.
