One of the most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles will be performing classic pieces and new compositions at Linfield College.
The American Chamber Players will perform Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall on campus. The program includes “Adagio and Rondo Concertante in F Major for piano and strings, D. 487” by Franz Schubert, “Three Watercolors for flute, cello, and piano” by Philippe Gaubert and “Quartet in E-flat Major for piano and strings, Op. 87” by Antonin Dvorák. The concert will also feature a new composition written for the group, “Hevenu shalom aleichem – Variations and Theme for flute and piano quartet” by Max Raimi.
The American Chamber Players will also be in residency for three days in the Department of Music and will visit classes, work with individual students and groups, and hold open rehearsals. The group consists of cellist Stephen Balderston, violist Miles Hoffman, violinist Joanna Maurer, flutist Sara Stern and pianist Reiko Uchida.
Among today’s most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles, The American Chamber Players began in 1985 as a core group of artists of The Library of Congress Summer Chamber Festival. The ensemble performs repertoire ranging from familiar masterpieces to neglected gems to newly commissioned American works, and their programs with varied instrumental combinations have been as enthusiastically praised as their dynamic performances. For many years, the group has been the Visiting Artists in Residence at the Society of the Four Arts, in Palm Beach, Fla., and the resident ensemble of the Kreeger Museum June Chamber Festival, in Washington, D.C. They have also been featured on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and on local radio stations throughout the United States.
This recital is free and open to the public. For more information, call 503-883-2275 or visit www.linfield.edu/arts.
