Author Martha Grover featured in “Readings at the Nick”

October 25, 2018 by Christian Feuerstein

By Christian Feuerstein

Martha GroverAcclaimed Portland-based author Martha Grover will read from her book, “The End of My Career,” Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Linfield College Nicholson Library. The reading is part of the “Readings at the Nick” series.

Grover is an author, poet and artist. She is best known for her latest collection of autobiographical stories and essays, “The End of My Career,” which was a finalist for the Oregon Book Awards in creative nonfiction in 2017. Her work focuses on themes of family, childhood, place and work.

The Los Angeles Review of Books wrote, “Grover’s ability to engage her reader trumps any categorization of her prose. She’s playing an entirely different game, one that only requires the author to connect.”

Grover graduated from the California College of Arts with an MFA in creative writing. She is the author of “One More for the People,” published in 2011, and is currently working on a graphic memoir. She has published her ’zine “Somnambulist” since 2003. When she is not writing her novels, she is creating art, making ’zines and selling real estate.

The presentation is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Nicholson Library and the Linfield College English Department. For more information, contact Susan Barnes Whyte at 503-883-2517, swhyte@linfield.edu.
