Linfield College faculty members approved the addition of two majors, a minor and two new areas of focus beginning in the fall of 2019. Students will now have the option to major in Public Health Promotion and Secondary Education, bringing Linfield’s total number of majors to 50.
The new majors represent emerging fields based in Linfield’s core curriculum, preparing students for professional opportunities and/or graduate studies.
The Public Health Promotion major is designed to teach graduates how to assess communitywide healthcare needs, as well as a community’s capacity for health promotion and education. Students will conduct research and examine public health through a variety of perspectives, including environmental concerns and local, national and global viewpoints. Graduates will be future leaders in public health.
With Linfield’s Secondary Education major, which is a double major only and leads to teacher licensure in a content area endorsement, the goal is to offer a program attractive to first-year and transfer students with plans to pursue a teaching license and a bachelor’s degree.
The Linfield faculty also approved a Data Science minor and Language Proficiency Certificates and Graduate ESOL Endorsement in Education as areas of focus.
In 2018, Linfield added majors in Wine Studies, Sport Management, Global Cultural Studies, and Law, Rights and Justice, as well as an Engineering Concentration.
