As part of the 100th season, the Linfield College Theatre program presents “SWEAT,” a story of working-class factory employees in Reading, Pennsylvania, by Lynn Nottage.
The winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize in Drama, “SWEAT” highlights the fault lines created between close friends when capitalist hierarchies rule the lives of the working class. The play premiered in 2015 at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival as part of OSF’s “American Revolutions: The United States History Cycle.”
Adleane Hunter is the guest director for this production. She is a theatre director and producer from Orange County, California. Hunter’s artist residency is made possible by the Lacroute Liberal Arts in Residence program, which is funded through The Lacroute Initiative for Advancing the Liberal Arts at Linfield.
Performances will be held Nov. 7-9 and 14-16 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. in the Marshall Theatre in Ford Hall at Linfield. Three post-show events will also be held:
- Thursday, Nov. 7: Post-show discussion, “Community, Competition and Scarcity”
- Sunday, Nov. 10: 1 p.m., “Meet the Guest Director” reception
- Thursday, Nov. 14: Post-show “Behind the Scenes” question and answer discussion
Tickets are available online at www.linfield.edu/arts and will be available at the Marshall Theatre Box Office beginning Oct. 29. Tickets are $10 for full price; $8 for seniors and Linfield faculty and staff; and $6 for students; with a $2 discount on all tickets on opening night. Seating is reserved. Located in Ford Hall, the box office is open Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m., and until performance time on performance days. The box office will also be open Nov. 9 and 14 from 3 to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 10, from noon to 2 p.m. The box office is closed Mondays. For more information, call 503-883-2292.
