Linfield College choir to perform homecoming concert

February 14, 2020 by Alexandra Feller

By Alexandra Feller

The Linfield Concert Choir will cap its 2020 tour of Washington with a homecoming concert. The Choir Tour Homecoming Concert will be Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the First Baptist Church located on 125 S.E. Cowls Street McMinnville, OR. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature music including works by Byrd, Bruckner, Mac Millan, Elgar, U2, and other songs in a variety of styles.

The Linfield Concert Choir traveled through Washington for a week making stops in Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Seattle, and Olympia. The 23 students and Professor Anna Song had choral exchanges with six high school choirs, connected with alumni and performed concerts for communities with less access to live music.

The Linfield College Concert Choir is the premier choral organization at Linfield. As the first such ensemble in the Pacific Northwest, this select group has toured annually since its formation in 1930, performing throughout the western United States, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, China, Southeast Asia and Costa Rica. The choir is open to all students by audition and consists of dedicated students from all majors and disciplines across campus.

The ensemble presents concerts both on and off campus throughout the year, performing choral literature from all periods and in a variety of styles, including larger works with orchestra; recently performed pieces include the Duruflé Requiem, the Mozart Requiem, Fern Hill by John Corigliano, and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. This spring the choir will perform Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
