Linfield’s giving days to support students affected by COVID-19

April 22, 2020 by Jill King

By Jill King

LinfieldGivesLinfield Gives 2020, Linfield’s fifth annual giving days event, will occur May 5 and 6. Instead of canceling the event due to the pandemic, the college is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow, a global generosity effort, on Tuesday, May 5, and Linfield is asking its family to support the movement at linfield.edu/gives.

In response to the crisis and its students’ needs, Linfield is raising funds for the COVID-19 Student Aid Fund. Many students and their families are experiencing significant hardships, including the loss of jobs and financial insecurity, which could affect the ability to return to Linfield this fall or to enter Linfield as a new student.

Some families have expressed the need for help with tuition, housing, books and other necessary expenses beyond the scholarship awards they have received. The Linfield community has always been a family, committed to supporting students.

But this time is different. The need is even greater.

The COVID-19 Student Aid Fund – from which support would be on a one-time basis and based on need – will fill the gap for financially vulnerable students during this crisis in order to attend Linfield.

All Linfield students will continue to benefit from the Linfield Fund, which provides scholarship support as well as resources for programs across campus that aid in gaining a strong liberal arts and experiential education in a close-knit community.

The Linfield Fund provides support to Linfield’s areas of greatest need and allows Linfield to strategically address emerging needs across all areas of the College and solve unexpected challenges during this difficult time.

This year, Linfield’s Board of Trustees is providing a 1:1 match for all gifts, regardless of donor designation, with the match going to the Linfield Fund.

Additional matches and challenges are welcome. Find more information on how to become an advocate and set up a match or challenge.
