Linfield University’s Department of Music presents the second in a series of events this spring featuring the Portland-based chamber music ensemble Fear No Music.

Flutist Amelia Lukas performs a 30-minute recital highlighting Black composers at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 1, followed by a panel discussion. The event is free and open to the public.

Pre-registration is required.

  •  Linfield students, faculty and staff may register on Engage at https://linfield.campuslabs.com/engage/event/6921603.
  •  Non-Linfield community may register via this online form: https://linfield.campuslabs.com/engage/submitter/form/start/467462

Known for her pure tone, flexible technique and passionate, committed performances, Lukas will perform a program of works, including “Danza de la Mariposa” by Valerie Coleman, “Move it” by Carlos Simon, “Homeland” by Allison Loggins-Hull and “Perennial” by Joshua Mallard.

The March 1 recital is part of Fear No Music’s residency at Linfield, highlighting the works of Black composers. While the 30-minute concerts are part of the ensemble’s public virtual season, the panel discussions and masterclasses are being offered exclusively to Linfield’s students and local communities.

Additional events as part of the residency are:

  • Masterclass with Kenji Bunch – Tuesday, March 16. Open to all Linfield student instrumentalists from 4:30-6 p.m.
  • Recital featuring Bunch, viola and Monica Ohuchi, piano – Thursday, March 18. Panel discussion with performers and featured composer Adolphus Hailstork from 7-8 p.m. with performance at 8 p.m.
  • Recital featuring Jeff Payne, piano – Monday, April 5. Performance begins at 7:30 p.m. followed by a panel discussion with Payne from 8:15-9:15 p.m.

The events are sponsored by the Lacroute Arts Series at Linfield University and the Department of Music. Visit www.linfield.edu/music  for more information.
