What does “Moderate Risk” mean for Linfield?

March 11, 2021 by Kathy Foss

By Kathy Foss

Banners on the Portland campusAs of Friday, March 12, both counties that are home to Linfield’s campuses – Multnomah and Yamhill – move to the “Moderate Risk” category of the State of Oregon’s county risk levels. This reassignment follows a trending decrease in risk level for both counties. Multnomah County moved to the “High Risk” category on Feb. 12, and Yamhill County joined shortly thereafter on Feb. 26. The new risk levels are effective from March 12 – 25.

With this change, certain restrictions on Linfield’s campuses will be modified.

Starting, Friday, March 12:

  • Social gatherings or social events (whether on- or off-campus) are limited to a maximum of eight people for indoor events and ten people for outdoor events, from two different households or family units. A reminder that for students, a ‘family unit’ is defined as you and your roommate(s). In the residence halls, a family unit is contained to each residential room.
  • Room capacities for indoor events, if approved by the Office of Conference and Event Planning, are limited to the posted COVID-19 room capacity or 100 people total, whichever is smaller.
  • Outdoor recreation, including athletic competitions, will have the maximum capacity raised from 75 people to 150 people.
  • The dining tent on the McMinnville campus, located on Renshaw Avenue, will reopen with a maximum capacity of 100 people.
  • Linfield’s weight room and cardio room on the McMinnville campus will move to 50% capacity. Workout times may be reserved at: https://golinfieldwildcats.com/sports/2020/8/26/hhpa-fitness-facilities.aspx.

Regardless of risk level, the following remain in effect until removed by Linfield University:

  • All in-person, on-campus events must be approved by the Office of Conference and Event Planning (as is required in normal event-planning processes) via 25Live, Linfield’s online event scheduling software.
  • Athletic competitions remain closed to spectators. Fans and families may watch livestreams of the events at https://golinfieldwildcats.com/coverage.
  • All existing COVID-19 Linfield Temporary Policies remain in place for all campus events, regardless of location, capacity, or purpose.
  • Events held at either campus must abide by the university’s COVID-19 event guidelines, found on the Office of Conference and Event Planning webpage.
  • No food is allowed at indoor events.

Statewide safety measures and Linfield Temporary Pandemic Policies such as continuing to wear masks, keeping physical distance and avoiding indoor and large gatherings are still key to helping to stop the spread of illness and protect ourselves and others, even for those who have been vaccinated. See additional information on the Linfield University COVID-19 webpages.
