Science education facilities are transforming and expanding at Linfield University. Alumni, friends and supporters marked the start of construction on the brand new W.M. Keck Science Center and renovated. Graf and Murdock Halls on Friday, July 9, with a groundbreaking celebration. The $37 million project, part of Linfield’s Spark Wonder campaign, marks the most significant science-building enhancement since the opening of Murdock Hall in 1982.
“With this groundbreaking, Linfield is embarking on a journey essential to the future of our institution,” Linfield President Miles K. Davis said. “We are supporting and celebrating the overarching vision of keeping Linfield University relevant while remaining true to our long and successful history in the sciences.”
Major support for the project comes from the W.M. Keck Foundation, the Evenstad family and many other donors invested in the importance of science education.
“These spaces will soon be full of amazing learning and discoveries because of the support of our donors,” Davis said. “They have made an urgent investment in Linfield, which is going to have a transformative impact on our students.”
Once complete, the complex will include three buildings totaling 84,000 gross square feet dedicated to the sciences at Linfield. The design includes dedicated space for faculty-student collaborative research; faculty offices located near each other to promote interdisciplinary teaching and learning; spaces for students to interact with one another; and much-needed teaching space for intro-level science courses for students in all disciplines. The new facilities will also provide spaces for the Evenstad Center for Wine Education, specifically a lab dedicated to wine studies.
Construction on the project is expected to be completed in December 2022, ready for students and faculty use during in early 2023.
