Faculty Lecture Series presents: Simulation in higher education

February 7, 2022 by Eric Howald

By Eric Howald

Heidi Johnston will discuss the benefits of simulated learning experiences as part of the Linfield Faculty Lecture Series.

Experiential learning allows students to apply classroom theory in real-world settings. As an associate professor in the Linfield University-Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Heidi Johnston knows the benefits better than most.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, Johnston will explore how simulated and experiential learning are a vital component of education in the next installment of the Linfield University Faculty Lecture Series. The talk, titled “Simulation in Higher Education: Collaboration across academic programs,” will be streamed live on the Linfield University YouTube channel. Johnston is the co-director of Linfield’s Accelerated Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (ABSN) and Master’s Entry in Professional Nursing (MEPN) programs.

In addition to the benefits of simulated learning, Johnston will discuss how academic programs can partner together using simulation to provide valuable learning experiences for students that encourage diverse perspectives, creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration.

The Faculty Lecture Series shares the professional work and interests of the Linfield faculty with the university and local communities. The series is sponsored by Linfield’s Office of Academic Affairs. For additional information or the full schedule, visit https://inside.linfield.edu/faculty-resources/faculty-lecture-series.html or contact 503-883-2224.
