April will see Linfield University theatre program, in collaboration with the Department of Music, produce its first musical in three years.
“Heathers The Musical” hits the Marshall Theatre stage with performances April 21-23 and April 28-30. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. each night with 2 p.m. matinees on April 24 and May 1.
Ticket prices are $15 for full admission, $13 for seniors, faculty and staff (two per ID) and $10 for any student with a school ID and available online at www.linfield.edu/arts/theatre.html and at the Marshall Theatre Box Office located in Ford Hall box beginning April 15. Seating is reserved.
Directed by Linfield Assistant Professor Lindsey Mantoan and based on the cult-classic 1990s film written by Daniel Waters, the musical explores the pressures of being a teenager, high school hierarchies, and the way isolation and exclusion can foster violent tendencies. Featuring an infectious score of rock music, clueless parents and teachers, an all-powerful queen bee and 7-Eleven Slurpee drinks.
“Musicals set in high school really tap into a vast array of feelings in audiences of all ages,” Mantoan said. “The specific issues ‘Heathers The Musical’ raise allow us to imagine less hierarchical dynamics.”
The play may not be suitable for all audiences due to adult content and language. It is recommended for ages 14 and older. Children 6 and under are not admitted to Linfield theatre productions.
The box office is open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and until performance time on performance days. The box office will also be open from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23 and Saturday, April 30 and from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24 and Sunday, May 1. Online orders for safe, contactless ticketing and mobile ticket or print-at-home options are encouraged. Please call 503-883-2292 for more information.
This production is sponsored by the Lacroute Arts Series, the Linfield Theatre Program and the Department of Music. The Lacroute Arts Series at Linfield University is made possible by the generosity of arts benefactor Ronni Lacroute. The book, music and lyrics are by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy. This production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals and was originally directed off-Broadway by Andy Fickman and choreographed by Marguerite Derricks.
