The Linfield Art Gallery kicks off the fall 2023 semester with an exhibition of film and visual art from Outside the Frame, a Portland-based nonprofit that provides houseless folks ages 16-30 with job training, peer mentorship, a sense of dignity and, perhaps most importantly, a creative outlet and means of self-expression through filmmaking.
Of the 125 people Outside the Frame serves, 80% identified as LGBTQ+; 77% as Black, Indigenous or people of color; and 54% as having a disability. Linfield will highlight their films, which will show alongside mentor-made art, at “Blame It On Art: Creative Mentorship At Outside The Frame.”
The opening reception, featuring the films and work of Outside the Frame peer mentors, is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30. OTF participants and mentors will be present to discuss art and issues in a casual setting with light refreshments. The show runs through Friday, Oct. 6, and is free and open to the public.
This exhibition is sponsored by the Lacroute Arts Series and the Department of Art.
