Linfield University was awarded a Gold seal by the National Study of Learning, Voting & Engagement (NSLVE) — 77% of voting-eligible Linfield students voted in the 2020 election (compared to 68% for all other bachelor’s institutions), a huge jump from the 64% of students who voted in 2016.
ASLU President Emma Campbell said she was hugely encouraged by the high turnout in the last election, and hopes to even see an increase during the 2022 midterms.
“Last month we hosted a voter registration drive right before the deadline,” she said, adding that ASLU was able to register more than 30 students. Since then, ASLU has done outreach and hosted a debate watch party in partnership with the political science department.
Campbell noted that students on campus should get their ballots to mail services by 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, although they can also be dropped off by 8 p.m. in county-run dropboxes. No postage is necessary. Voters who lost or have not received their ballots may request and fill out on in-person the day of at the Yamhill County Courthouse, which is a block off NE 3rd Street or the Multnomah County elections office at 1040 SE Morrison St. in Portland.
