For the fifth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report magazine has named Linfield University the No. 1 liberal arts college in Oregon and one of the best in the nation when it comes to social mobility. In the publication’s 2024 rankings, Linfield was named No. 52 in the nation on the “Top Performers in Social Mobility” list, up five spots from 2023’s No. 57.
Linfield moved up in the overall rankings as well. The university rose 12 spots this year, tying at No. 107 in the nation’s top liberal arts colleges list.
In its 39th year, U.S. News & World Report evaluated nearly 1,500 U.S. four-year bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 19 measures. The annual ranking added increased emphasis on how often schools’ students from all socioeconomic backgrounds earned degrees and added new data on graduate outcomes.
Linfield scored high in the social mobility category, which measures how well universities graduate students who received federal Pell Grants. Students receiving these grants typically come from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually, with most money going to students with total family incomes below $20,000. Of Linfield’s 1,754 students last year, 28% were Pell Grant eligible.
Linfield was also recognized for the third consecutive year among the publication’s list of “Best Undergraduate Nursing Programs.”
U.S. News & World Report isn’t the only national publication recognizing Linfield’s commitment to improving the lives of students. Forbes listed Linfield University among “America’s Top Colleges” and one of the top 100 liberal arts universities in the nation earlier in September, and Washington Monthly ranked Linfield No. 9 nationally for earning performance and the No. 1 liberal arts college in Oregon. In addition, College Raptor included Linfield on its 2024 Hidden Gem rankings, recognizing Linfield’s commitment to retention, graduation and student-to-faculty ratio.
